Alternatives for Children

When Alternatives For Children was established in 1988, our goals were the same as they are today - to provide the special children we serve with the skills and tools necessary to succeed as they begin their journey and maximize their own abilities. As it is difficult to truly understand what it means to realize that your child needs assistance along the way unless you have experienced it yourself, I would like to share with you a letter from a mother of one of our students.

“When you have a child you are both excited and overjoyed with your new miracle. Then one day you notice some delays and become worried and concerned. Every day from then on becomes longer and longer as you stare at your child, praying he will catch up to the other children. You sit and listen to your friends say, “don’t worry, he will do it when he is ready.” However, your gut is telling you different.

I remember the day I was told my son would need early intervention. He was 15 months old; it was a Thursday; I was wearing blue jeans, a red t-shirt and it was sunny outside. I not only feared for the next couple of months, I wondered what his future years were going to hold.

I did a lot of research when I needed a school for my precious child. I needed a place where I could depend on the services as well as the teachers. I needed to feel I could put my trust in them as professionals. I now feel this way with my son’s teachers and teacher assistant and I am grateful for every stride he makes. He has only been at Alternatives for five months but he is a new child. His teacher and teacher assistant have patience with me and my son and are dedicated to his learning on daily basis …”

Alternatives For Children prides itself in exploring and implementing creative new approaches to learning and therapies. It is this approach that allows us to realize the triumphs of seeing a child working, playing and developing to the best of their abilities. We are able to accomplish our goals through the generosity of people like you, who believe in giving a child the necessary tools and opportunities to succeed.

I am proud to report that 92% of all dollars brought in through our fundraising efforts go directly to programs and services for the children. Please help us help them by being as generous as possible with a tax deductible donation to the Alternatives For Children Annual Campaign. On behalf of the over 20,000 children that have graduated from our programs over the years, and those to come, THANK YOU!
